    Harlequin baby (A case report)

    In this article, a full-term male neonate with Harlequin fetus has been reported. It was born from a 20 year old mother by the Caesarean operation. In the clinical examination, broad, thick and hard hyperkeratotic disks were observed all troughs the body with extended gashes among them in the skin. The deformity of the face, the eyes server ectropion, the orbital chemosis and the flattening of the nose and the ears were among other disorders to be observed. The lips were overturned. There were no nails or hairs to be seen. The movements of the joint were limited. Hands and legs, in particular in the extremities were on a state of fixed gangrene and seemed to be ischemic. The patient died in the third day of hospitalization due to indicators of respiratory infections and the sepsis

    A New Method for Determining the Leakage Inductances of a Nine-Phase Synchronous Machine From No-Load and Short-Circuit Tests

    The accurate determination of stator leakage inductances is presently an open issue in the analysis and testing of multi- phase electric machines. Calculation methods are available, which involve complicated and often poorly precise three-dimensional (3-D) analyses. Experimental determination techniques, using measurements on the wound stator with the rotor removed, are also possible, but quite impractical, as they need to be performed during machine manufacturing or require rotor withdrawal. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to determine all the stator self- and mutual leakage inductances of a nine-phase synchronous machine based on a minimal set (a couple) of magnetostatic finite- element (FE) simulations, and on the measurements taken during no-load and short-circuit routine tests. The procedure is applied to a wound-field salient pole nine-phase synchronous generator for validation, showing good accordance with the results obtained from measurements on the machine with the rotor removed.     Steady-State Simulation of LCI-Fed Synchronous Motor Drives Through a Computationally Efficient Algebraic Method

    Wound-field synchronous motors (WFSMs) fed by load-commutated inverters (LCIs) are widely used for high-power applications in many fields like ship propulsion, oil and gas industry, and pumped-storage hydropower generation. Several design architectures exist for LCI drives, depending on the number of LCIs and their dc-link connection as well as on the number of WFSM phase count. The prediction of LCI drive performance at steady state is important in the design stage, especially in regard to the prediction of the torque pulsations, which can give rise to serious mechanical resonance issues. This paper proposes an algebraic method to simulate the steady-state behavior of LCI drives in all their configurations of practical interest. Compared to conventional dynamic simulation approaches based on differential equation solution, the method is much more computationally efficient and requires a very limited knowledge of system parameters. Its accuracy is experimentally assessed by comparison against measurements taken on a real LCI drive arranged according to various possible schemes. Furthermore, the advantages of the proposed algebraic method over the dynamic simulations are highlighted by comparison against the simulation results on a high-power LCI-fed WFSM drive in MATLAB/Simulink environment

    An Algebraic Algorithm for Motor Voltage Waveform Prediction in Dual-LCI Drives With Interconnected DC-Links

    Load-commutated inverters (LCI's) are often used to supply dual-three-phase synchronous motors in high-power variable-speed applications. A pair of LCIs is used in this arrangement to feed the two motor three-phase winding sets. In order to cope with inter-harmonic issues, a drive configuration with an interconnection of the two LCI dc-links has been proposed. In this paper, such a drive design is shown to produce an increased voltage stress on motor windings compared with traditional configurations. The problem is investigated in the paper by proposing an algebraic algorithm capable of predicting the steady-state voltage waveform applied to the motor terminals and arising between the star points of the two winding sets. Unlike conventional dynamic simulations, the proposed approach gives practically instantaneous results, making it possible to quickly investigate a wide number of possible operating conditions. Furthermore, it requires a limited knowledge of system parameters, which are often hardly available. Its reliability and accuracy are assessed by comparison with measurements on a test drive system and examples are given of the method application to the sizing of motor insulation system

    A Novel Thyristor-Based CSI Topology With Multilevel Current Waveform for Improved Drive Performance

    Load-commutated inverters (LCIs), combined with wound-field synchronous machines (WFSMs), can be an excellent solution for high power drives, but their present technology suffers from important drawbacks related to low power factor, large torque pulsations, and poor starting performance. This paper presents a new LCI design intended to overcome the mentioned limitations. An SCR-based forced-commutation circuit is added to the common inverter topology to obtain a five-level waveform for the stator current. This leads to significantly reduced current harmonics and torque pulsations, in addition to bringing benefits in terms of lower additional losses. As a further advantage, the proposed design allows for a significant power factor enhancement. Finally, it enables the WFSM to be started with a much smoother torque compared to the traditional pulsed operating mode of conventional LCI drives. Simulation studies are conducted on a high-power drive scheme to show the aforementioned improvements. Also, a reduced-scale laboratory prototype of a WFSM drive system is tested to verify the feasibility of the proposed converter

    Epidemiological aspects of suicide lead to death in Iranian population during 2004-2008; A retrospective study

    Suicide is raised in many countries around the world as one of the major problems in medical and social advocacy. The increasing incidence of suicide in the community is sensible and irreparable damage to the body of a society's human resources. Therefore the present study aimed to explore the epidemiological aspects of suicide leads to death in Iranian population during 2004-2008. In a retrospective study a census sampling method was used. All records formed of suicide death in Ilam province during 2004 to 2008 in the Office of the State Coroner were evaluated. Data was collected by a checklist including age, gender, marital status, educational level, occupation, number of families, suicide instrument location of attempted to suicide, place of death and season. SPSS software Package 14 was used to analyze the data of this project. Mean± SD, median and percentages were used to describe the data. The average percentage of suicide lead to death in Ilam province was 18.7 per 100.000 person's .Women and men have a suicide rate roughly equal (50.8 and 49.2). There was a significant relationship between month (P= 0.02), season (P= 0.03), the number of families (P= 0.001) and percentage of suicide lead to death. Self-burning was the most common method used by suicide lead to death. This study showed that suicide remains a serious problem and an increase occurred in suicide in Ilam province in comparison with previous years

    Organizational Activities in Nursing Research Transfer from Viewpoint of Nurse Educators in Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences

    Background: Transferring research-based knowledge into practice would help to maximize the quality of health care. However, the role of knowledge producers and the organizational roles related to knowledge transfer have been largely ignored. Objectives: This study was accomplished with the aim of describing the organizational activities needed to transfer the findings of nursing research from the viewpoint of nurse educators in Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences. Patients and Methods: This descriptive study was carried out with participating 279 nurse educators of medical sciences universities. Data were collected using Knowledge Translation Self-Assessment Tool for Research Institutes (SATORI). Results: Nursing faculty members evaluated the organizational activities of transferring the knowledge of nursing research at the “medium” level and for the domains of “the question of research” and “promoting the use of evidence” at a “weak” level and in the domains of “knowledge production” and “knowledge transfer” at a “medium” level. Conclusions: Organizational activities related to the knowledge transfer of nursing research are demonstrably low (medium at best). It is recommended that in each faculty and with the participation of all faculty members, the research transferring procedure should be assessed and all necessary changes needed to improve the research transferring procedure should be implemented

    Genetic characterization of Vimba vimba persa (Pallas, 1814) in southern parts of the Caspian Sea using microsatellite markers

    Population genetic structure of Vimba vimba persa was investigated using microsatellite markers from 40 regions along the Iranian coastline of the Southern Caspian Sea (Anzali lagoon and Havigh River in Gilan province, BabolRoud River in Mazandaran province and GorganRoud River in Golestan province). Genomic DNA from 121 specimens was extracted from fin tissue by the Phenol-Chlorophorm method and PCR reaction was accomplished with 17 microsatellite primers, out of 17 microsatellite primers 13 loci were amplified, in which 10 of them were amplified with reasonable polymorphism and 3 were monomorphism. A total of 302 alleles were identified on average 7.55. Observed and expected heterozygosity averages were 0.80 and 0.77 respectively. Most cases significantly deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p≤0.01). The estimation of Fst (p≤0.01) revealed significant population structuring and an estimation of the four population of Vimba vimba persa was identified in the Caspian Sea in which restocking of these species should be considered

    Dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica of the radial head: a rare case report

    Background: Dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica (DEH) is a rare benign overgrowth generally affecting the epiphyses and short bones of the lower limbs. DEH in the elbow joint is extremely rare, and to date, only three cases of DEH have been reported in the radial head. Case presentation: In this study, we report a case of DEH located in the radial head of the right elbow of a 10-year-old boy, which was presented with elbow pain and limited range of motion. In clinical examination, an asymmetrical enlargement was observed over the elbow. The lesion was resected surgically, and the patient�s symptoms resolved afterward. The histologic analysis of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of DEH. Conclusion: This report highlights the role of DEH in the differential diagnosis of elbow pathologies, particularly its differentiation from osteochondroma. © 2021, The Author(s)

    How does functional constipation affect growth status in children?

    Background: There are some evidences suggesting functional constipation-related growth retardation in children, especially in early childhood. Considering high prevalence of constipation, early diagnosis and treatment of constipated patients may improve the quality of life in these children. In this study, weight and height of Iranian children aged 2 to 12 years with functional constipation was evaluated compared to healthy children. Methods: A total of 130 Iranian children aged 2-12 years, 65 with functional constipation and 65 as healthy children referred to pediatric gastroenterology clinic during Jan to Dec of 2016, were enrolled in this case-control study. Functional constipation was defined as Rome III criteria. The growth status was evaluated using the growth charts, and Z scores of weight and height for age were recorded, with the consent of parents and child willingness. Results: 65 constipated patients (44 boys, 21 girls) with the mean age of 8.28 ± 3.24 years and 65 healthy children (25 boys, 40 girls) with the mean age of 8.32 ± 3.42 years were evaluated. The mean weight of case group was 23.69 ± 4.14 kg and mean height 126.49 ± 10.34 cm. The mean weight of control group with 31.62 ± 4.85 kg and mean height 153.47 ± 13.88 cm, demonstrated significant difference with the case group. The observed mean weight and height were significantly lower in constipated group and the differences of height-for-age and weight-for-age Z scores were statistically meaningful in constipated and healthy children. Conclusions: Functional constipation in children aged 2 to 12 years may retard their weight and height growth, so early diagnosis and treatment of children with constipation is beneficial in their adequate growth status. © 2019, Author(s)
